Grace 03:43
Grace Now I am better, I’m on the rise I can fly into the sky And she will hold me with grace in the storm I’ll be the peaceful one at sunrise At ease oe’er the midday And at rest as the sun slips away I’m gonna crawl my way to sanity And I’ll be held there by my gravity I’ll do nothing, forever, and a day I will know my heart I saw that from the start If I listen, I’m guided my way Now I am better, I’m on the rise And I can fly into the sky And she will hold me with grace, when I’m gone

She 03:27
(Green Woman, Huldra) Marian van der Zon – vocals & background vocals Steve Dawson - guitars Jeremy Holmes - bass Gary Craig - drums She lives inside of me And above and below In the form of pink pyramids Where I’m safe to grow Connecting to towering trees And moving down the roots Deeper ‘cross the country And deeper ‘round the seas Her hair extends to galaxies The starlight streaming down Interleaving easily With the trees that she has found She breathes with life and grows Ever present, so she be And in a moment, I suppose That always, she is me

Wrong Way 04:25
Runnin’ down the street, lookin’ side to side Watching my feet, as I lengthen my stride Running on faster, over the hill Running on faster, closer still It’s the long way, but not the wrong way to get home Breakin’ out the herb on an afternoon Settin’ work aside to strum on this tune Chillin and relaxing, let it be Given up on time, for clarity I love the long way, not the wrong way to get home Headin’ to the lake, while the sun it shines Feels so good, with my friends at my side Diving in deep, heading out strong It feels so right, it can’t be wrong It’s the long way, not the wrong way to get home Digging in the earth, under shady trees How can it be wrong when I feel so free? Connecting to the ground, releasing in the earth I feel so alive and of intrinsic worth It’s the long way, but not the wrong way to get home Falling into silence, listening to my breath Letting go, letting go, ten thousand tiny deaths Making room for the new, new room in my heart For there is always ample space, to love each and every part It’s the long way, but not the wrong way to get home Movin’ to a friend’s, on an afternoon Laughing and allowing, til we’re over the moon Wandering back home as the stars come out Stealing flowers from the gardens, letting go with a shout It’s the long way, but not the wrong way to get home

We Are Love 05:37
Come down, Come down upon me My angels. Hold me tight Wrap yourselves around me Wrap yourselves, through another, long night I feel you twine my soul Fragile as spun gold To remind us, remind us all, To keep on, keep on, With hearts bold Shifting changing entropy Becoming resiliency Morphing transfiguratively Eyes close to inner depths Tears fell as my ego wept And yet, connectedness finds me, Holds me close and binds me, To love, and all that there is x2 Every hour, every day, may I find new ways to play. Aliveness awaits Perhaps our true mate We try to court fate in our partial states We’re hiding, from our own love We’re hiding, from our own love So easily I do forget Fall into duet Searching, breaking a sweat A poor bet and unmet When I can stay inside And live out the ride By letting go, of all that there is Your wing beats do find me Not me, only we And limitlessly, my heart opens wide. And limitlessly, my heart opens wide. And limitlessly, my heart opens wide. And limitlessly our hearts open wide.

Stillness sleeps along the ground, The beats my heart do make Winds, they blow from East to West, A storm for us to wake We gather it round us, the winds whipping fast We spiral and join, as in times past I feel my eyes close and begin to see, As I move past myself To peaceful waters of we United, we feel all the love in our world Work on fanning the flames, with our hearts unfurled The storm rises round us, and wind eddies whirl Sing the storm ever stronger, send this love round the world

Shine 05:28
Let your light shine, Oh Be all you can be, Oh Let your light shine, Oh Only then will you be free Set it free I was feelin’ kinda low, Oh So met a friend for cheer, Oh She gave me a comforting hug, ohh Told me, just be here She told me… Let your light shine, Oh Be all that you can be, Oh Let your light shine, Oh Only then will you be free Let it shine I was feelin’ just right Strong, present and clear He held me so tight Whispered in my ear He told me… Let your light blind me Be one with all you see Let your light shine, Oh Only then will you be free Set it free I opened my mouth to sing Without a care for who might hear I let the notes take to the wind Felt and let go, of my fear They told me… Let your light shine, Oh Be all you can be, Oh Let your light shine, Oh Only then will you be free Let it shine I looked inside of myself Looked at all that I held dear I couldn’t find an ending Only yet another sphere I said to me… Let my light shine, Oh Be all I can be, Oh Let my light shine, Oh Only then will I be free Set it free I look around at all of you And the months turn to years I see you grow, fall and stumble And rise, to see us near We say to you… Let our light shine, Oh Be all we can be, Oh Let our light shine, Oh Only then will we be free Let our light shine, Oh Be all we can be, Oh Let our light shine, Oh Only then will we be free Set it free

Some Days 04:35
Everybody look around, everybody look around, everybody look around, everybody hits the ground, some days Some days, some days, some days; Some days, some days, some days Some days I go to sleep, some days I just don’t want to know Some days I get to weep, some days I just stay low, low Its raining down again, shows me my own insides Keep on wonderin’ when, I’m ready for the new tide, now Everybody hear the sound, x3 We are no longer bound, some days… I’m tryin’ to be hopeful, I’m tryin’ to stay clear x2 And I fail some days, lay at the bottom of my well. Oh, I fail some days, and then I rise. x2 Some days I start to stand, and open up my heart Look for a helping hand. For each, we have our part. Some days I rise up high, I look way up above. I feel like I can fly. And all I know is love. Is this not how we’re wound? x3 Oh But Look what we have found! Some days…

I dreamed I found three dragon eggs And brought them to my home. I warmed them and I loved them. Two hatched and began to roam. My mom & I, we travelled far Throughout the mountainside To give them safety – a safer place A safe place in the sky. As we travelled through the forest, The birds, they came to me. They nestled on that final egg, To warm it, as need be. The third egg hatched, And my mom went back, to gather up supplies. I walked farther into the forest, Until time no longer applied. But when she found us Things had changed, for time had whisked away. Our dragons – they were giant sized And would not, could not stay One dragon, emerald green she was Had thrown me in the air. After somersaulting down to her I rode her everywhere. As I rode, my skin it changed. I became a part of her. I had green scales all over me Connected telepathically. We rode as one, into the sky Invisible to all. As we descended, came to the ground, There was a magic tree. This was our home Our tree bore fruit and protected all who came. We began to think, not of ourselves But as a greater part of we. My brother found his dragon And let go of all his fears. He found his strength, all he could be For no one to see but he. Bonded with his dragon, My mother – she was too. Hale and healthy, with agility In love and integrity. We flew the world. Invisible. And all we touched, turned true. They found their love, for all the earth And creatures that do be. Prime Ministers and Presidents All leaders of our world Had hearts touched by dragons and found that they could see. Those that turned towards the love Found upon their hearts. A small green dragon rode there, To guide them, and to start. Not all could find the courage To open up their hearts For they, their dragons blackened Turned inwards, with fangs and forked parts. Creatures, magical and pure Found their way to our new home. The magic drew them, Because our hearts were true, they no longer had to roam. New eggs appeared, were warmed and hatched. New riders found in kind. To spread the ease and happiness, The joy we all had found. As warriors of love, we rode, On throughout the night And as more were touched and more dragons born We circled the world in flight. My sister joined us, her partner too. Found their dragons at their sides. Their inner strength joined in our fight, As our world – she opened wide. Our planet changed, as love was gained, And people turned toward the skies. And each one of us, found our love, As we looked deep and deeper inside. We threw away our trappings, Of status and inequality. And found our inner worlds were love, And loved all there was to be. And found our inner worlds are love, And loved all there is to be.

In Love 03:18
Sharing their love, the deepest of treasures Walking their life paths, stronger together Their love connects and tethers Yet rests gently, light as a feather We gather here to celebrate This commitment of love, chosen by fate For here stand two souls Greater than one whole To support one another thru fair and foul weather Knowing the depth of their love is, beyond measure The couple choose to entwine their lives Creating never-ending depth, to grow and to thrive For here stand two souls Greater than one whole We gather here to celebrate This commitment of love For here stand two souls In love This depth, these roots, tunnel below And laterally, to include all they know To celebrate this special love Shared with us all, as bright light from above For here stand two souls In love To love and be loved Apart or together For here stand two souls In love x2 Dedicated to Heather and Jurgen.

Peaceful Me 03:33
You claim you know what’s happening But you never speak to me I feel abandoned. I feel abandoned. I hear you’re busy with your life today, And every day & every day I feel abandoned. I hear your choices in the words you speak And know you don’t have time for me I feel abandoned. I’m disappointed in possibility people are what they can be I must recognize, to simplify. It’s all there for me to see The connection that I thought was rare Is no longer clearly there. I must recognize, to simplify. It’s all there for me to see And so, I lay my soul wide open For not anyone, and me And, as I go inside, I feel and know That I’ve found the peaceful me And so, I recognize, I simplify I see what I must see. After moving through, after moving through I feel the peaceful me I am the peaceful me Soul friendships deepen thru our lows New friends arrive, plant seeds and grow Thru shared joys and misery, always holding space for me Thru our love, creating we, they see the peaceful me. Thru our love, creating we, we feel the peaceful we.

about

Marian van der Zon is now exploring new sonic and thematic territory with Of the Sun. Blending organic psych-folk, alt. country, and loop technology with lyrics and messages of healing, spirituality, love, perseverance, and mysticism, the debut Of the Sun album, Still Rising stands as a huge personal and artistic triumph.

It has been a very long road to the completion and release of this dramatic collection of material. Marian suffered a serious vehicle accident in 2013 – an upending event so physically and mentally debilitating that it ended her academic career, and she has been unable to work since. And as a performer, touring as it is generally considered remains an impossibility; a single performance is so draining for Marian that it takes her days to recover.

Consider this: for years following that fateful day Marian suffered from a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), with migraines and exhaustion - so much so that, as a musician, she could not even listen to music with a discernible beat without experiencing acute discomfort and distress. So, that she has battled her way back from such an unthinkable situation, to rebuild her life and create the musical journey that is Still Rising is simply extraordinary, yet testament to her indomitable force of will.

Marian’s recovery continues at the serene, bucolic home – the ‘Valley of Miracles’ that she is gradually fashioning into Of the Sun Sanctuary - including Nature Meditations and Equine Facilitated Wellness with her three beloved Medicine Horses, Tia-Jewel, Zadia and Shasta.
